Credit Card Fraud And What It Does To Your Life
by Lyn Leckie-Matassa ~ August 30th, 2007. Filed under: Credit Card Fraud. What a day I am having today!
It all started when my bank phoned me re some rather unusual transactions on my credit card, It was blatantly obvious that they were not my transactions. The transactions totalled a couple of thousand dollars, my bank said the reason it flagged was because they were unusual overseas sites.
So obviously someone or a hacker has obtained my credit card information and is using it all over the internet.
What has this loser done by using my account, sure he probably got his rocks off by the name of some of the places he used my credit card but he has also caused me a major inconvenience.
I have had to close my account and now I will have to get a new credit card and then contact all my direct debits and give them the new information.
This whole scenario has me asking myself whether or not I should trust buying things online. For the majority of times you can know that your account will be kept confident and know that the site is secure by checking the security certificate on the site. All you need to do is click on the little padlock symbol and it will tell you who the secure site is with then you check the site name and make sure it is who you are dealing with.
I know that a lot of people are affected everyday with credit card fraud and identity theft it is becoming an increasing concern due to the internet. As you can appreciate tracking people down via the internet is hard but it can be done.
Credit Card Fraud is a growing concern for the computer and internet savvy person. Most of us today enjoy ordering our stuff online, whether it be thruogh ebay, Amazon or someother well known sites. I have made a decision to upgrade my security level on my computer and to also be exceptionally careful as to who and where I use my credit card from now on.
You hear about it all the time, credit card fraud is rampant right now. You could be at a restuarant and the waitress could copy the details of your credit card and then when she knocks off go online and order a whole heap of stuff and you are none the wiser. Or a hacker could obtain all your personal information and take on your idnetity now this is a whole new kettle of fish isnt it. To lose ones identity would have to be the uttermost pain in the rear. To have to sort out who is who and prove you are you. I would hate to be caught up in that.
Some simple steps you can take is to set your security level higher on your computer you can do this by going to tools, internet options, then click on the security tab and click whatever type of security you want to have. Ive gone to high now and I will seperately allow those sites I know are ok.
I hope this will help you to avoid being scammed, and maybe help you if you have already.

One way you can prevent credit card fraud is to really pay close attention to your credit cards, and your online banking. Once you see a item that doesnt belong you can instally call your bank to stop whats going on. Sorry to hear this happened to you.
