There is a way to save your tags. When upgrading from Wordpress 2.3 you need to import your tags if you have used ultimate tag warrior as you cannot use ultimate tag warrior in wordpress 2.5.
It is quite simple first though you need to backup your wordpress database.
Then you need to go to manage/import
Then scroll down to Ultimate Tag Warrior and click to import it will tell you to backup your database which you should do before attempting to import your previous tags to wordpress 2.5.1
It is a 5 step system and will take only a few minutes if you have a small blog but a little more time for more tags.
Once completed you can then use a plugin called simpletags to generate your new tags in wordpress 2.5.1.
I would advise that you check through your posts, just go to manage and check that your posts have indeed had their tags imported. I found that most have actually been imported however I still have a few that I have to do manually.
Which brings me to my next point of be careful when editing old posts. Wordpress has a built in pinging feature which is great for when you write new posts but if you have to edit old posts it will ping those too. I did turn the ping feature off but it does still ping so be careful you don’t want to get blacklisted for spamming or pinging too often.
I always hate updating my wordpress as you never know what conflicts there are going to be with the plugins that you use. So far the ultimate tag warrior is the major conflict but it is easily resolved.
